After a lot of fiddling and a couple of reinstalls i have the tvguide.ini working and am able to get mdb working also.
My goal is to use listings for MythTV. Mythtv will not accept xmltvid (channel identifiers) with spaces and possibly requires numbers only. i had to rename the channel identifiers and search and replace each with a numeric identifier to get the data into myth.
Is there any change i can make to the wegrab files that would do this for me ? or am i out of luck?

Yep, just change the xmltvid in the config file to your wishes.
WG++ normaly uses this value only to fill the xmltvid in your guide.xml.
(MythTV supports not only numbers. You can use both number and letters. Have here also a Mythtv setup running)
