Merging Issue

G'day to all. WG++ is a great tool and I have got it to work for me thus far. For me I pull EPG data from more than 1 source so as to speed up the process and this works fine. Now what I would like to do is to merge these EPG files together so that NPVR only has to look in 1 place instead of many for the relative EPG file. I have read here in the forum regarding the Misc_merge-xmltv file and the associated .ini file and have followed the instructions as far as I can tell. Unfortunately for me, the merging process is not running as expected.

I copied 2 of my guides created with WG++ to C:\test folder. One is named aguide.nebraskss.xml and the 2nd guide is named Askyguide.UK.xml. So I have edited and enabled the appropriate line (I think) in the .ini file to read subpage.format {list|C:\test\aguide.nebraska.xml|C:\test\askyguide.uk.xml}.

In my WG++ config.xml file, I have loaded in a few channels for testing purposes. Then I execute WG++ and it fly's through its processing but it fails out because it failed to locate the cookie file for DTV. My understanding is that the merging process would not need the "cookie" file because file1 is just being merged with file2 and therefore there would no need for a cookie file. Am I wrong in this assumption? My second surprise is that the merging does take place as a file named test.guide.xml is created and the data within seems to be correct as i do see all 12 test channels with their associated programmes. So I am confused. I have attached all the relative files to my issue so that you would have additional data to look at and possibly instruct me where and what i am doing incorrectly. Thank you in advance and thanks for a great proggy. Cheers!!

PS It seems I cannot send an attachment or at least I cannot find how to attach the zip file.

after u add ur file to subpage you need to create a channel.xml using the merge-xmltv.ini file.
its the same as doing it for a regular website except merge-xmltv loads files.

its this channel.xml u use to merge the actual files.

G'day BB...When I initially ran WG++ it created these directv.com.channels.OMAHA.xml and uk-sky.com.channels.xml which i will assume are the channels.xml files you are referencing. I can only go by what these files contain like BBC One Lon and so on for the other 11 channels I am testing with. So I think what you are saying is that I have to take those channels with the respective directv.com.channels.OMAHA.xml and uk-sky.com.channels.xml and run WG++ again in order to create a merge specific channel file, yes? If so then I did not understand the written instructions and i what i read in this forum. But now that you bring that to mind, it makes sense that i would need to run WG++ in order to create the merge specific file then run WG++ again to actually merge the files. So we are talking about a 2 step process? Thanks in advance...Cheers!!

I was think that the merge process would be using the "EPG guides" that were already created and merge those. If I could attach my zipped files I believe it would help me in understanding.

the channel ines from channel.xml u use to grab the actual data and and the channel lines used in the merge ini are not the same.

this is why u need to create a new channel.xml using the merge ini file.
how else are you going to get channel lines for the epg file u have from a externalk source?

also u cannot grab and merge at the same time(in your case).

so you need to do this..

1. grab whatever epg u want with webgrab
2. have ur external epg xml file downloaded already
3. create a nnew channel list using the merge ini so u have a channel list containing all channels u want to merge
4. usiing channel list creates in above step to merge them using another instance of webgrab setup just to merge files.

G'day BB...Thank you for those instructions. It is just as i thought, a 2 step process. I will give it a go and see what happens. Thanks again.

G'day to all...I found a solution in another forum that is C+ based and it works like a charm. 2795 progarmmes (6 day pull) for UK and USA channels combined in 3.45 seconds. This proggy takes the existing EPG files created by WG++ and combines them into 1 EPG file. Very fast and works like a charm which is just what I was looking for.

I don't want to violate any rules here so I will not post the solution as it was found in another forum. However, if i had the capability to include an attachment I would. Thanks to those who directed me on this issue.
